Chaplain
Randy Axtell
Chaplain Randy, an 11-year Navy veteran, retired from LANL in April, 2015. He received his College Diploma for Theology in January 2009 from Faith Bible Institute, his license as a Senior Chaplain in May 2010 from the International Alliance of Chaplain Corps, and he is a Co-Founder and President of the Sangre de Cristo Chaplain Services. In 2005 Chaplain Randy, together with Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8874 Commander John Eugene (Gene) Tucker, successfully petitioned the National VFW Organization to recognize the eligibility of Submarine Veterans’ service during wartime as evidence of ‘foreign lands’ service, since Submarine locations were classified. Chaplain Randy was the first ‘Silent Service’ Veteran to obtain a VFW membership, paving the way for all wartime submariners (including his son) to join the VFW, and he became a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8874. Chaplain Randy is an active member of the Patriot Guard Riders and is a Sunday School teacher for his church. He has lived in the area since 1993 and currently resides in Española with his wife, Chaplain Jeri; they have four children and sixteen grandchildren. His heart’s desire is to minister to the Española Valley First Responders.
